Message posted by Col Sajjad (Retd), President OBA annexed below.
Dear Kazhaks,
It is with shock and dismay that I write this letter as we have lost two of our distinguished members within a week of each other. Lt Cdr EJ Mathews of the 1980 Batch passed away alone in his house last week and today we lost Capt Iwan K Joseph of the 1976 Batch.
Roll No 1053, Lt Cdr EJ Mathews, a member of the School Basket Ball Team was an Anti-Submarine Warfare expert and ADC to the Governor of Goa, Daman, Diu and Nagar Haveli before he took premature retirement in 2005. He was popular among his batch mates and had even attended the 50th Anniversary of their joining Sainik School on 04 Jul 2022, just a few days before he lost his life. It is sad that he left us so early and was all alone when he died.
Roll No 683 Capt Iwan K Joseph of the 1976 Batch was an excellent sportsman while in school and was known to seniors like us because of his achievements in games and sports. He was the School Adjutant besides being the best Sportsman of his Batch and best in Boxing. So when he joined Hunter Squadron in NDA I was extremely happy to have him as I was then the Games Captain of the Squadron. He had a promising career in the Navy but left it to migrate to USA. Many of us were not aware of his illness and it came as a shock when the news of his demise reached us.
The loss of two of our worthy members is indeed a sad occasion for all of us. On behalf of the OBA and on my own behalf I offer my deepest condolences to the near and dear ones including batch mates and friends
With a heavy heart
Yours sincerely,
M Sajjad/574/1974
President SSKZMOBA

NOTICE FOR SSKZM OBA AGBM – 19 DEC 2021
Dear SSKZM OBA members,
On behalf of the Executive Committee (EC) of SSKZM OBA, it is my duty and honour to announce our AGBM for 2021 and invite you all to participate in it. Owing to the prevailing circumstances, the event will be conducted via Zoom on 19 Dec 2021, from 1000 hours.
I had sent out a notice on 19 Nov 21 about the AGM scheduled on 19 Dec, mainly to seek inputs from the general body about the OBA EC’s proposal to conduct elections online for various EC posts during the forthcoming AGM, as we have not been able to conduct this since 2019. Owing to the sheer diversity of the inputs received, it is intimated that the elections will not be held during the AGM on 19 Dec. However, a proposal to hold online elections after a month or so after the AGM, will be an item on the agenda. Further, since I have not received any item for inclusion in the agenda in response to my request made in the notice I sent out on 19 Nov, I invite them once more. I would be grateful if you could ensure that agenda points reach me on or before 12 Dec. They can be sent to my personal email ID deepchin47@gmail.com.
I also request everyone to kindly share this notice with as many members of SSKZM OBA as possible. As per our bye laws, we need a minimum of 100 members to attend the meeting so as to meet the criterion for a legal quorum. Financial statements and other inputs if any for the AGM will be circulated separately.
With the warmest regards,
Commodore G Prakash (retd)

It is with deep sadness, OBA fraternity inform the demise of Sooraj Krishna (5193/18). He left us due to Covid-19 on 16 May 21 evening.
A brief write up by his classmates is appended below.
"Sooraj was Senior sergeant of Ashoka House. He was nothing less than a gem. Was part of the 2017 RD parade. Person with a tank full of potential in terms of Academics and in-depth knowledge(esp IR). The ace volleyball player who captained and represented school twice in south Zone. The depth of knowledge he carried was impeccable. He was a great Malayalam debater, Writer, Quizzer, A voracious reader who has a record of reading the most number of books in an academic year, had great theatrics skill, too. A consecutive merit card holder and has always been part of cultural, whether it's a House day or Annual day.
A rare mix of brawns and brains, A tough nut to crack was active throughout his school years, He idolized and held Captain Harshan R, AC in high regards and was on the journey to join OTA, it's tough to digest the news.
He had a lot to offer, unutilised potential at its best, Sooraj has a younger sister along with his parents."
May his Soul rest in peace

Dear SSKZM OBA members,
On behalf of the Executive Committee of SSKZM OBA, it is my duty and honour to announce our AGBM for 2020 and invite you all to be a part of it. Owing to the extraordinary circumstances that prevail, the event will be conducted via Zoom, on 13 Dec 2020, from 1000 hours. As you all are aware, the original AGBM that would have been held on our OBA day at SSKZM had to be cancelled. However, as per the prevailing rules of the Registrar of Societies, Trivandrum, it is a statutory requirement for us to conduct the AGBM within 18 months of the previous AGBM. Hence the planned meeting on 13 Dec 2020.

As per our bye laws, we need a minimum of 100 members to attend the meeting so as to meet the criterion for a legal quorum. The Annual & Audit Reports will be circulated ahead of the AGBM.

Hi Friends,
Regret to inform you that Finosh Babu (2771/97) passed away just a while ago (11 Sep 20). He was in ICU at Command Hospital Bangalore for the last several weeks post emergency neurosurgery after suffering a sudden brain stroke.
Finosh was an excellent football player and singer (esp old hindi songs) but left school in the middle years. Since his family was based in Delhi we had lost touch with him over the years.
Our sincere thanks to Dr Bobby Iype (2000) who is a family friend of Finosh for informing us and keeping us updated. Also thanks to Dr Vinod Felix and Col Unnikrishnan (both 97 batch) who through their personal contacts kept us informed of his condition in the last few weeks.
He leaves behind a young bereaved family and we hope that they find the strength to overcome this untimely tragedy.

ROLL NO 1559 COMMODORE MP ANIL KUMAR, IN

07-06-2020,
Dear Friends,
I hope all of you are coping well and keeping safe during these difficult times.
We in the EC have been keeping busy trying to formalize a lot of unwritten procedures and processes and trying to put them down as the document which will hopefully become a guideline for the future office bearers. Special thanks to Col. Sajjad who has been the architect and the members of the EC who have been contributing their bit to finetune the document. We hope to put it up to you for your perusal and approval shortly.
Under the leadership of Wg Cdr Padmaraj, the brand new directory is nearing completion. It would be something you would be proud to keep on your coffee table.
The uncertainty of this present crisis is such that we are unable to plan anything in advance and while we hope that this nightmare ends soon, we all know that it is going to take some time before life returns back to near normalcy.
Considering this fact, the EC has decided to cancel the Old Boys Reunion 2020. Postponing the reunion to December was considered, but in the present circumstances, we felt it prudent to call it off rather than postpone it.
However, as per the requirements of the Societies act and our byelaws, we can only postpone the Annual General Body Meeting of the association for a maximum of 6 months from the due date. Considering that the lock down would be lifted to a great extent, we will plan to have the AGBM and elections sometime end of the year. The modalities will be worked out and you shall be informed well in time.
Stay Safe.. and looking forward to seeing you all sooner than later.
Commander Sam T Samuel

Indian Naval Ship Sharda, based at Kochi, rescued five fishermen at sea who were floating in the water after their fishing vessel, FV Omkaram, sank, some 35 km North West of Azhikal port, on 04 Mar 19. The incident occurred at around 09:30 AM when the ship was on patrol in the area. An alert lookout sighted a movement in the water, which turned out to be the five floating fishermen.
The ship acted with alacrity and immediately altered course towards the survivors. It thereafter lowered its life boats and successfully rescued and brought on board all five fishermen within ten minutes of the initial sighting. Two of the fishermen had sustained minor injuries and were administered first aid by the Ship’s Medical Team. The ship thereafter headed for Kochi to disembark the survivors. The rescued fishermen have indicated that they had cast off from Cheruvathur in Kasargod at 04:00 AM on 04 Mar 19. As per them, water started entering their 13 feet boat, which they were unable to control, and the heavy flooding ultimately caused the boat to sink.
The fishermen had to remain afloat without any life saving devices from 06:30 AM till the time they were rescued. They were out of mobile range and were unable to swim or to seek help from other boats. They said that they had removed their clothes to wave at the ship and had almost lost hope of being rescued. All the survivors Manoharan (56) (Boat Owner), Vasav (57), Chandran (60), Suresh (42), Surendran (49) belong to Kanjanghad, Kasargod. The survivors were provided food, water and fresh clothing by the ship’s crew. Efforts are on to inform their next of kin as well as Trikkaripur local coastal police station. INS Sharda is an offshore Patrol Vessel of the Indian Navy and presently in its 26th year of commission. The ship is actively deployed for coastal surveillance and patrolling off Kerala and Lakshadweep islands and has also undertaken regular anti-piracy deployments in the Gulf of Aden. The ship was earlier too involved in rescue of 21 fishermen during Cyclone Ockhi and was also used for distribution of relief material during Op Madad, which was launched by the Southern Naval Command, at the time of the Kerala floods.
The ship is presently commanded by Commander R Anoop
Cdr R Anoop is R No 2534 from the 1995 batch
