School Captain & Best All round Cadet, Awarded Ashok Chakra (Posthumously) by President of India on 26/01/2008, Died in an encounter with militants on 20th March 2007 at Kashmir. Capt. Harshan R killed two hard-core terrorists at very close range in Lolab (North Kashmir) on 20 March, 2007. For over two months preceding the operation, this gallant officer had been relentlessly tracking foreign terrorists. The officer first killed one terrorist but was injured due to a gunshot wound on his thigh in this action. Unmindful of this injury he went on to kill another terrorist. In the process he received another gunshot, this time on his neck. He later succumbed to his wounds. Capt. Harshan R belonged to Manacaud, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala

Col NJ in 1983, in Mizoram, Col Nair engaged the insurgents in close quarter combat and he was awarded the Kirti Chakra in recognition of his exceptional gallantry. 
In December 1993, he was leading an advance party of convoy in Nagaland, when they were ambushed by about one hundred insurgents. The overwhelming fire from automatic weapons killed 1 Junior Commissioned officer and 13 jawans on the spot. Col Nair who was seriously injured did not lose his courage. Unmindful of his serious injury, he organised his jawans in an assault line and charged at the insurgents when they broke ranks and fled. For his courage and gallantry he was awarded the Ashoka Chakra posthumously in 1994.
