Major KPR Hari VrC (901/79)
May 1999 saw mass troop movement into the budding war zone at Mushko, Drass, and Kargil. KPR Hari, then a Major, was part of his battalion, which moved up towards the war zone.
On night 6/7 July 1999, Major KPR Hari was tasked to attack “Jubar Top”, an enemy stronghold at the height of 16,800 feet in Batalik Sector. He launched a two-pronged attack. Disregarding his own safety, Maj KPR Hari crawled through the boulders over a stiff cliff and destroyed the enemy Heavy Machine Gun hanger and killed two enemy personnel. The enemy sensing immediate capture withdrew leaving a huge quantity of arms, ammunition, and equipment and the post was captured at 5.00 am without any casualty.
Major KPR Hari, along with another officer, kept the momentum of the attack and captured Juber Main by 6.00 pm.
Major KPR Hari displayed unique initiative, bold action, indomitable courage, strong determination and exceptional leadership in capturing Juber Main. For this heroic act, Major KPR Hari was awarded the Vir Chakra.
