Col A Rajiv - Principal
Col A Rajiv is the 19th Principal of Sainik School Kazhakootam. He is an alumnus of the same school who passed out of the institution in 1990. While in school he was an ace debator, sportsman and topper in English in the Board Examination. He is an MA in English and MBA in Human Resources.
He joined the 85th course of National Defence Academy and passed out of Indian Military Academy in 1994. He was commissioned into 1st Naga Regiment (Infantry) and was soon involved in counter insurgency operations in Assam and Kashmir. During Kargil war, he sustained an injury and later joined Army Educational Corps. He has a vast experience of operational, instructional and staff duties accruing out of his 21 years of commissioned service. So far he has served in Assam, J&K, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.
He has served the Sainik Schools Society in form of being a Registrar at Sainik School Balachadi from Apr 2001 to Dec 2003. He has served as a Group Testing Officer (GTO) in Services Selection Board at Allahabad from 2007 to 2010. He has assessed about 3500 candidates during his stint as a GTO. The Officer is the recipient of the coveted Chief of Army Staff Commendation Card for his distinguished service in 2012.
Before taking over the present assignment as the Principal, he was the Director of RTI cell in Delhi looking after the RTI matters of Indian Army. As Director RTI and PIO, he had disposed off close to 11,000 initial applications, 1500 first appeals and 75 second appeals.
Lt Col B Girish Kumar - Administrative Officer
Lt Col B Girish Kumar joined Sainik School Kazhakootam in 1982 (Roll No: 1928) and passed out of the school in March 1989. While at school he excelled in academics as well as Co curricular activities and games. He was the House Captain of Ashoka House. He represented the school in Volleyball and took active part in Debate & Quiz competitions.
He joined the 83rd course at the National Defence Academy in Dec 1989. The officer was commissioned into the Regiment of artillery on 11 Dec 1993 and started his career in the Northern Command, where his parent unit, 255 Med Regiment was then stationed.
In the past 23 years of commissioned service, the officer served in several regions, across the country. He participated in Counter insurgency operations in Upper Assam with his parent unit, and also served as Company Commander in Assam Rifles at Myanmar border. His staff appointments include tenures as GTO in Service Selection Boards at Allahabad and Bangalore totaling to seven years. The officer was handpicked to be the Principal Investigator for the field work in Behavioral Domain of the De-Novo Selection System being developed for the Indian Armed Forces. It is to his credit that he continued to be associated and consulted by the Defence Institute of Psychological Research (DIPR) on this matter regarding the said project even after formally leaving the selection system.
Hailing from Kottarakara in Kollam dist, Lt Col Girish Kumar is married to Anju Mohan. She teaches Polymer Technology in a Govt Vocational Higher Secondary School in Kottayam dist. He has two daughters, Amrita (Roll no: 5728, Class 9, SSKZM ) and Pratibha (Class 5 student).
